Worcester head coach Paul James is resigned to losing American forward Richie Gordon.

Gordon, 22, was one of the stars of the Wolves’ excellent 2011/12 season, helping them reach third in the BBL Championship and being named in the BBL Team of the Year.

However, despite being offered a deal to return to Worcester next season, he looks to set to take up an offer in Europe.

James told the Worcester News: “It’s probably unlikely that Richie will be back because he’s looking to play somewhere else in Europe. We have been looking for a replacement in that position.

“It’s no secret he was looking to play somewhere else after the great season he had under our tutelage and the players we put around him.

“He was able to excel in the BBL and is trying to play at a higher level if he can and earn a bit more. We had a great season with him and all we can do is wish him well if he doesn’t come back.”

Gordon arrived in Worcester from Western Carolina University, and averaged 19 points and six rebounds per game, resulting in him appearing in the BBL Team of the Week 10 times throughout the season.

But James’ attention will now turn towards persuading Tommy Freeman that his basketball future lies with the club, having already secured the re-signings of Sherrad Prezzie-Blue, Carlos Fernandez and Arnas Kazlauskas.
