Aliu Column: We need to dig deep

Mersey captain David Aliu admits the Tigers aren’t good enough at the moment and talks about their home venue and the NBA in his latest BBLFans column.

Our second half against Worcester last week was not good. We were down three at the end of the first half and we should have come out positive and pushing a bit more to try and get the lead.

Instead we let them bust the game wide open, and they started hitting three after three, after they hadn’t hit any in the first half.

I’m not taking anything away from Worcester because in the second half they put in a great performance, but we as a team and as individuals need to look at ourselves and start digging deep for 40 minutes.

The Worcester performance was no real surprise to us because they have a good coach with tons of experience and a good mix of inside and outside players.

We of course play the Wolves again on Friday.

We’ve had a good week of training but we need to start putting all of our hard work from training in to the games. I am positive we will get there sooner rather than later.

It’s another game at our new home at the Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park. The new venue is nice, there’s a good atmosphere and there’s good interaction with the crowd.

I’m starting to feel back to normal now after I was hit down with a bit of a bug. I was sick in the games against Glasgow and Cheshire but I felt a lot better against Worcester last week, so hopefully that has all passed now.

A lot of talk in the basketball world at the moment surrounds the NBA lockout. The situation is absolutely crazy and I didn’t ever expect a situation like this to occur.

We are seeing a lot of NBA players now coming to Europe and boosting teams’ talent, but I hope that the whole NBA season is not lost, as it is the biggest and best league in the world.
